315 Elite Lacrosse is a program dedicated to developing well rounded lacrosse players and individuals, furthering the sport of lacrosse in our area, and providing players with the best possible youth sport experience possible. Part of developing well rounded players includes focusing in and coaching them in every aspect of the game. As a club we feel it is important to give and your children an opportunity to improve in every way possible. Which is why Coach Paige will be offering a speed clinic once a week for boys and girls of all ages. This speed clinic will give the kids an opportunity to focus solely on footwork, speed, and agility which can help them grow as athletes and prevent injury as they grow.
Objective: The objective of the speed program provided will focus on 6 pillars of developing speed an agility. The first pillar being multidirectional; change of direction in lacrosse is something we are all to familiar with. It is important that our players are constantly working on adjusting their bodies to work in a lateral movement to maintain good reaction time to ball movement and prevent injury from happening while doing so. Most ACL injuries happen from a lateral movement because the movement isn't isolated and worked on in practice, leaving room for a misstep. The second pillar is acceleration, which remains a crucial aspect in the game of lacrosse. With more of an emphasis on this in girls lacrosse due to the amount of whistles however it is still prevalent in men's lacrosse as well. Through drills we will work on reaching the max accelerated speed in less time as well as faster shorter movements. Pillar 3 is load and explode, it's important that players develop and build the muscle memory to go from 0-60 and prevent injury, by emphasizing the isolation of those muscle groups and then moving into an accelerated movement it will improve overall speed, strength, and reaction time. Pillar 4 is quick feet and foot work, defensively being able to break down your steps and move laterally or bi-laterally within a few seconds is vital in the game of lacrosse. By emphasizing ladder drills and whistle drills we will work to improve these skills. Pillar 5 is reactive speed, being able to react to your opponent or ball movement is a precedent in the sport. We will work to improve this by emphasizing some of the work we did in pillars 1 and 2 and combine them by doing partner speed skills exercises. Pillar 6 is max speed, not just being able to sprint the fastest but reach the top speed as fast as possible. For this pillar we will work on doing sprints for different lengths as well as combing some of the work we did in pillar 3 to help us reach that max speed in less time.
